The Ontario Lovender Community, or Lovender for short, works to provide a safe and educational platform for LGBT+ youths. We are a non-profit organization made to provide anonymous, one-on-one support for youths who need to talk to someone.* We publish YouTube videos designed to guide youths on their journey from self-discovery, closeted, coming out to looking for community. We also recommend books or other pieces of media that can help you. Here at Lovender, we believe in L.O.V.E.—limitless, open-minded, valid and empowering. We hope to help you discover your valid, limitless self while empowering you and keeping an open mind.
*Please note that we are not therapists or doctors and cannot replace professional treatments. If you are suffering from mental or physical health issues, you need to seek professional help.
Lovender came from a combination of “love” and “lavender.” We decided to choose lavender because of the flower’s symbolism behind LGBT+. The flower represents the community’s resistance and fights for visibility. It used to be a degrading word to taunt gay men and exclude lesbian women. However, by 1969, the colour had come to symbolize empowerment and resilience.
To create a safe place for LGBT+ youths.
To help LGBT+ youths feel safe and heard within their community and become their best selves.
